Celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary this year? Please let us know on or before Thursday May 18; so we can have the mayor present you with a certificate at the picnic. (You must be at the picnic to accept.) A photograph of the wedding would be great – and one of the happy couple today - which we will display in an album as part of our celebrations.

FREE DRAW AT THE MAYOR'S PICNIC
Print out and share the details from here.
At the Mayor's Picnic, June 11th 2017, the Oakville Historical Society plans to have a free draw for a $150 gift certificate. The certificate may be used to purchase any of the books, posters, maps or cards currently available for purchase in the OHS office at 110 King St., Oakville.

All you have to do is register at the picnic. In addition to the entry in the draw, you will be entitled to receive an Oakville Historical Society family membership valid for the remainder of 2017. You will receive the OHS quarterly newsletter “The White Oak”, notifications of social events, ghost walks, speakers' nights and an invitation to the OHS annual Christmas party. This is a great way to meet other members and to socialize. This draw is open only to nonmembers. Society members come and bring your extended family and friends and sign them up for the free draw.
FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
To celebrate Canada's 150th birthday we are asking couples who will be celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary anytime in 2017 to submit a picture of the bride and groom along with a current picture of the bride and groom if possible. Even if the bride and groom are no longer a couple we would still appreciate a copy of your wedding picture from 1967 for inclusion in our 2017/18 display.

In addition to the usual attractions the OHS is planning some special events at the Mayor’s Picnic this year. Couples who are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2017 and are pre-registered with the OHS are invited to join in a walk-about in Lakeside Park. Registered couples will also receive a congratulatory certificate signed by His Worship Rob Burton, Mayor of Oakville.

Any couple who has been married for more than 50 years may also join in the walk-about in the park.

OAKVILLE CELEBRATES ITS 190TH AND CANADA’S SESQUICENNTIAL

The Oakville Historical Society’s sesquicentennial display theme is “Oakville Celebrates”. Many aspects of Oakville’s rich heritage will be highlighted in display including 1867 and 1967. If you happen to have saved souvenirs from Canada’s Centennial Celebrations and you are willing to loan them to the OHS we would be more than pleased to include them in the display.
 RE-ENACTMENT OF A MOMENT IN OAKVILLE’S HISTORY
The Mayor’s Picnic will be visited by a group of very talented actors who will be presenting a moment in Oakville’s History; a short play based on real characters from Oakville’s early days.

CHILDREN ATTENDING THE MAYOR’S PICNIC HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN SOME PRIZES
This year you may just get a chance to meet and chat with some of Oakville’s ghosts who usually don’t present themselves until closer to Halloween. Children attending the picnic are invited to search out these friendly characters and have them sign a Picnic Passport. Participating children will then be eligible for entry in a draw for one of a variety of prizes including: an afternoon of family sailing on Lake Ontario (two sailing afternoon to be won); Ghost Walk family passes (two family passes to be won), and a variety of books available for sale by the OHS.

50th Anniversary Registration and Centennial Souvenirs

To register for the 50th Anniversary Congratulatory Certificate and Walk-About at the Mayor’s Picnic or to offer the loan of your Canadian Centennial Souvenirs call the OHS (905) 844-2695 and leave a message for Greg.  Please include your phone number and/or other contact information and what you are calling about. You may also contact us by other means. The sooner you call the better as if you leave it too late you may not get your certificate until after the picnic or there may not be room in the exhibit for your treasured souvenirs.
