10:30-11:30am: Scanning Photos & Documents for the Absolute Beginner.
This hour-long session will be divided into two parts.
In the first section, Ian will review best practices and alternatives to scanning your precious family history documents and/or photos. He'll then discuss various methods of storing the files for use and sharing with others.
The second section will be a live demonstration of scanning using a typical setup, and a chance to ask specific questions and give the equipment a try.
1:00-2:00pm: Researching Your UK & Irish Ancestors
This hour-long lecture will take you through the basics of researching your ancestors in Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales online.
Ruth will guide you through an examination of the major databases to help you with your research and provide you with some suggestions to further your research. This is a lecture for beginners.

2:30-3:30pm: Using FamilySearch.org FamilySearch.org is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, yet many are unfamiliar with this incredible resource for their family history research. Join Kathleen and her colleague from the Oakville Ward for an introduction to the growth of this database, and learn how to use the system for your own family history research. They will show you how to get an account, how to get started and share who to contact if you have problems and how to correct mistakes that need to be fixed. Be sure to bring your questions about navigating this extensive site! |
