Fantastic presentation of history of Oakville and its ghosts. My husband and I enjoyed it very much. Thank you to all who made this walk happened. I still wonder if members of city historic society took the acting courses? Bravo!

Y L on Trip Advisor 5/5

I loved the Ghost walk very much and already posted review on TripAdviser. I do not see any area for improvement. It was absolutely unexpected professional acting and very knowledgeable. I would recommend it to my friends. Thank you very much.

Y L Emailed Review. Ghost Walk on Saturday 26th 6:30 pm led by Peter McDougald

Response

This is a lovely surprise. I haven’t taken any acting courses or training, so it is very kind of her to think it was professional. I have just been telling the same few stories over the years and adapting them to the reaction of the people on the walks.

Peter McDougald, Ghost Walk Leader

Hello Yuliya

Your kind comments are appreciated by all of our volunteer members. We are totally a volunteer organization, except for summer student interns

I do not believe anyone you met, took acting courses. In one room schools, some of the ghosts performed in plays.

Each Ghost you met, follows basic guidelines. They then researched their part, to create a story and to bring it alive with caring. We want to bring history alive.

We have been unsuccessful in getting volunteers from numerous theatre groups and educational facilities.

Each Ghost Leader tells the story of Oakville in the 1800s, from their own perspective. Many guests join our
Ghost Walks on an annual basis. We look forward to seeing you again.

Awesome fun for all ages
Informative, exciting and really good fun. Take a trip back in time and meet some of Oakville's characters. Round it off with a delicious cookie and cup of hot chocolate!

Good lore, safe for kids   4/5 on Trip Advisor

It wasn't spooky, or even really very dark, but I get that when you're catering to kids. The history itself was plentiful, more so than the ghost stories. The live actors wandering around (even despite the rain) is a nice touch that differentiates this walk from others.

Thank you very much for your review.

Wish we could make the area darker at night for the Ghost Walks.

The first walks each night, starting at 6:30 do have an amount of sunlight at the beginning of the walk.

While on the walk, you may have noticed the older street lighting is no longer operational. Oakville Hydro recently installed LED street lighting. This adds a lot more light to the streets. Two nights during Ghost Walks, tennis courts at the Oakville Club were illuminated.

The live actors wandering around are all volunteers. I don't believe any of them have any theatrical training.

We are so glad you enjoyed the experience.

This was my second time doing a ghost walk with the Oakville Historic Society. The people that I've met that work the walk, have always been very pleasant to deal with. My only complaint is that it doesn't really take us through a lot of the old area of Oakville. I'd love to be brought through downtown, and be told about a lot of the old buildings that lined the the street. I know it would be hard with the construction that's going on, but just food for thought. Either way, I will/have recommended to people I know to take the ghost walk, and I plan on doing it again in the future.

Thank you very much for your comments.

It is important to keep the Ghost Walk close to an hour.

We do sell walking tour books and guides. We also have a free audio tour of Trafalgar Road.

For groups, customized tours can be arranged.

Hi Sue

Glad your group had such a great time! All of the volunteers appreciate your thoughts.

You may now preregister for next year. We will let you know when online reservations requests are being accepted. Many people return on an annual basis.

We really enjoyed the walk especially since it was good weather. We both hoped that we would see an actual ghost but the [...] and the ghosts in the window were well done as were the stories and the history of Oakville.  I am hearing-impaired so I didn't hear the woman in costume--a device to make her voice louder would have been appreciated.  We didn't go for the cookies and hot chocolate because we are always counting calories.  My daughter would have some good thoughts about Oakville on her way back to Finland.  I planned to take some pictures but left my phone at home--drat.

Thank you Sandra for your kind comments.

On our website [...] edited out one of the surprises people may experience. It is great that neighbours pitch in to help create the atmosphere for our Ghost Walks.

Each of the volunteer Ghost Walk Leaders is to use a microphone and a portable speaker. Sorry you could not hear the stories very well. If we knew you had a hearing challenge, the Ghost Leader may have insured you were closer to her during the presentations.

For many of us, keeping thin and trim is a real challenge!

We are so glad that your daughter enjoyed the experience.

Warm Regards,

It was great, I think you guys did a terrific job. Online booking works well, the initial walk up to the cottage is charming because you can only see where you're going by the footpath lights. It's a good length and amount of information. The ghosts in the windows, etc were delightful. I would like to see patrons encounter more than one live ghost along the way. It would also be ideal if the route could not retrace its steps, as it does along Navy.

Congratulations on providing such an enjoyable experience!

Our family, 3 teens and parents, enjoyed the Ghost Walk. We suggest smaller groups though as our group was larger with approximately 15-20 people. Having it that large made it difficult to see what was being referenced and hear what was being said, even with the microphone.

Thank you very much for your comments.

We aim to have a maximum of 20 people with each tour. Sometimes people get spread out. We are working on plans to make it easier to hear the Ghost Leader next year.

Good Morning Constable Sumner

We really enjoyed the ghost walk and meeting you at the market gates on our tour.

It was quite informative and entertaining and something we have shared with family and friends.

We would have liked to see more ghosts however we agreed we will return to the area often to discover them on our own.  Having said that our teenaged daughter and her friend really enjoyed the ... .

Enjoyed our 4h Ghost Walk this year. Our Ghost Gide did a great job, very "in character" which adds to the experience. The extras we passed along the tour added to the fun.

Very much appreciate the volunteers that continue to make each year an event for us.

Some added recos to think about
- open the museum and St. Jude's for quick pass throughs
- look in the local downtown restaurants to get in the spirit for Ghost Walk promos for dining before or after
- keep the  .... story along side the ....

We had a lovely evening learning more about the history of Oakville while walking around the different locales. Our guide's impersonation of Esther was wonderful! It was easy to imagine being there back in the beginning, when Oakville was first being established.

The warm apple cider after our walk really hit the spot!
